First, there was hot girl summer. Now, we’re knee-deep in BRAT summer.
For those out of the loop, alternative pop diva Charli XCX released her sixth album, BRAT, in June. The record is a masterful, cheeky, raw, dance music-influenced rumination of what it means to be a party girl into your thirties. She mulls over the idea of having a baby on one track, and on the next, she rallies everyone to go hard on the dancefloor. She pays tribute to her late collaborator SOPHIE in a heartfelt ballad and then opines that everything is romantic. It’s all chaotic, sexy, and personal. In an interview, Charli said being a brat involves “a pack of cigs, a Bic lighter, and a strappy white top with no bra.” Heard!
BRAT has become a huge summer hit with its slime green branding, addictive rhythms, delirious fancams, and viral TikTok dance. Even Vice President Kamala Harris has boarded that BRAT train. So it makes sense that Pacific Science Center is translating Charli’s magnum opus into a one-night only (for now) laser show. What’s more BRAT summer than that?
