It’s time to get gardening, aspiring horticulturalists.
The country’s largest plant hobbyist convention is landing in our city for the first time, meaning you’ll soon be able to explore a 175-booth market showcasing global sellers while collecting useful wisdom along the way. Connect directly with local and international growers at this convention of green thumbs as you pick up treasures from starter plants and rare collector items to handcrafted planters and even plant-inspired jewelry and clothing. Budding enthusiasts are welcome too and will benefit from free presentations and hands-on workshops.
Kenny Kong, the president and founder of PlantCon International, promises you’ll be greeted with a smile and perhaps a sprout clip or two. As you enter, you’ll experience background music and plants as far as the eye can see. Attend workshops on kokedama, the Japanese art of growing plants in a moss-covered ball, or tissue culture, a scientific method of propagating plants in a controlled environment.
Special guests range from Britt Parrish (@BotanicallyBe) — a plant educator, content creator and podcast host with 150K+ followers, known for making plant care approachable and fun for all levels, and Jan Gettmann (@SydneyPlantGuy) — a German-born, Sydney-based creator with 600K+ followers, who’s celebrated for growing large aroids into towering statement pieces. Kong says he’s most excited about seeing everyone’s smiles, as they leave with a cart full of plants.
