Thursday, August 6: I don’t think the greater Seattle-Tacoma area needs any reason to light one up. That said, it’s good that the Santana/Doobie Brothers concert is happening outside at the White River Amphitheater on the off chance you like their music but the sticky icky icky isn’t your thing.
Saturday, August 8, Friday, August 14, Friday, August 21: Always wanted to see Seattle’s own kick-fucking-ass “diamond in the muff” rock band Thunderpussy but keep missing them? August gives you three chances to see them, so quit screwing around and get your dance on. Catch them at any or all of the following: Aug. 8 at Pioneer Square’s Baba Yaga (w/ Zookraught); Aug. 14 at the all-ages venue the Vera Project (w/ Black Ends and Sundries); or Aug. 21 at Ballard’s Sunset Tavern (w/ Tezatalks and Liberty Strikes).
Tuesday, August 11: Speaking of the Vera Project, there’s nothing better than seeing good music for a cause. So head to the Seattle Center for Punks in Drag for Trans Rights, a night of music and performance where all proceeds will go to No Hate in WA State and making sure dumbshit, hateful, bigoted initiatives get voted down.
Friday, August 14: Do phrases like “lesbian raccoon rock,” “pink punk” and “freak beat fuzz” tingle your spidey senses? The Royal Room in Columbia City gets extra effin’ cool for one night as they host the Chloroforms, Ichi Bichi and Trash Panda Go Kart.
Wednesday, August 19: Nobody likes geese (fuck geese!), but everybody likes Goose, the Connecticut-based jam band that have finally reached household-name status. Pack into that-weird-box-originally-named-after-a-defunct-business-and-we-all-collectively-pretended-it-stood-for-“Washington-Music” we call the WaMu Theater and groove like your life depended on it.
Thursday, August 20: Here’s one for the Gen Xers reading this site. (How’s your lower back doing? I’m an X-Millennial cusper so I can make this joke). Grab a blanket — or better yet a low lawn chair for that shitty back of yours — and hit up Woodland Park’s ZooTunes to catch the Breeders(!) blow the roof off of… an outdoor venue in Phinney Ridge. Special guest: Team Dresch.
Saturday, August 29: It had to happen: The Seattle-based dance punk outfit Linda From Work is playing Linda’s Tavern on Capitol Hill. What’s the occasion? It’s the return of Linda’s Fest, a rollicking and totally free day of music and mirth as you guzzle cold beer and gobble their delicious diner food. Other bands in the lineup include fantastically named groups such as Suzzallo, Filth is Eternal and Sux, plus more to be announced.
