2023 has been an energetic year for sisters Veronica and Valerie Topacio. Their festival Belltown Bloom had a lineup announcement in Stereogum, their band, La Fonda, made a pilgrimage to SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the record they describe as “of our dreams,” We Are Infinite, dropped on April 7th. La Fonda will mark the record-release occasion at Capitol Hill’s Neumos venue on April 13th, a week after the record’s initial release. Lisa Prank, Chinese American Bear, and Cujo Boogie will be supporting acts.
While chatting over Zoom ahead of We Are Infinite’s release, Veronica and Valerie told me they plan on twisting the usual front-to-back way bands play albums at album release shows. “The show, it will probably be one of the only times that we do this, but we’re playing the record how we recorded it, from start to finish,” Veronica Topacio said. “The whole entirety.” The difference there? They’ll play We Are Infinite in recording order, not tracklist order. It’s a move that honors the workshopping process that happens inside of a studio, taking the audience inside the record’s piecing together while still delivering the final product they’re excited to share.
Though not their first time taking the Neumos stage as a band (they’ve previously played for events like Capitol Hill Block Party, among others), it’s one the Topacio sisters explained they’re especially excited for. “There’s a lot more at stake for this,” Veronica said, “just because, you know, this is something that we’ve been manifesting for a while.”
