CupcakKe knows what it means to have a big year.
The Chicago rapper had her biggest streaming year in 2022, despite only releasing one track, “H2Hoe.” Big years and big streaming numbers have been a longtime theme for CupcakKe. The internet sensation‘s look, sound, and humor are prime internet fodder for viral videos, memes, and endlessly looping Tik Tok sounds—but don’t underestimate her. Writing is a close friend to CupcakKe, and that’s what cements her in the game. People can luck into a one-off hit about being a bad bitch, but not just anybody can be a bad bitch and consistently release political, sexy, gay, current hits.
Local openers Taylar Elizza Beth, Yella Catt, and Da Qween will join CupcakKe and bring loud Seattle pop and rap sounds to the stage.
White Center-raised Taylar Elizza Beth is in an album release cycle for her latest full length, Undercover Lovergirl. The album is filled with melodic pop runs and, mastered at Black Lab Studios in White Center, a significant drop for the Seattle hip hop scene. I’m thrilled to hear the tracks live.
Northwest creative YellaCatt is a multihyphenate. A singer, songwriter, composer, and designer, her accessory designs have been worn by major acts like Nicki Minaj and Lizzo. Her own videos are large-scale productions, with lighting and graphics that highlight her pop sensibility.
And lastly: Da Qween, a name to know! The Seattle-based rapper has been grinding from house shows to KEXP sessions. Last spring, during a banging KEXP live session, Da Qween teased a forthcoming EP. Hopefully we’ll hear a bit on Thursday!
