Although January gets a bad rap, February is really the month that hardens the soul—it’s cold, the rain is dreary, and the sky is perma-gray. Even though we get sunsets past 5 pm, this is the time when winter seems to close in on all sides.

Luckily, the good people at Figurehead Brewing in Magnolia know just the thing that will make us all feel better. Beer. Outside. On Saturday, February 8th, the brewery is hosting its SAD (Strong and Dark, not Seasonal Affective Disorder) Beer Fest, the city’s only outdoor winter beer festival. Beer lovers will have their choice of 24 strong and dark beers from 21 different breweries. Sip a Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale from Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids, MI, a Sakura Mochi Stout from Yoho Brewing Company in Japan, and/or a Global Mutt Baltic Porter from Wander Brewing in Bellingham. If you don’t have hair on your chest already, these ales will be sure to put some on for you.

An advance ticket gets you in the door (obviously), a commemorative glass (for the first 125 customers), and six beer tokens (one more than if you get your tickets at the door). In addition to strong and dark beers, Figurehead is also serving up coffee, hot chocolate, and s’mores and Vandalz Seattle Taqueria will be on deck to give you some delicious food to fill your belly. As with all outdoor events in this slice of country, it’s going to happen rain or shine—so be prepared!
