You missed it! This event has passed.
Immerse yourself in African eats, beats, and art at this yearâs Madaraka Fest. On August 13th and 14th, Seattle-based Kenyan non-profit One Vibe Africa hosts the festivalâs eighth installment down in Seattle, this time on Pier 62, bringing together a wide array of African creatives. African Entertainment Award-winning comedian Eric Omondi will host this yearâs fest, with performances by reggae musician Nazizi, rapper Khaligraph Jones, and âSwazi Popâ (self-dubbed Swahili hip-hop and jazz) recording artist Nafsi Huru, among others. Thereâs a big range of stuff going on here, from Benga to R&B and electronicaâ and itâs free* and on the water, so what else are you really looking for?
*Itâs free to attend, though the festival marks the end of a year-long online fundraising campaign for One Vibe Africa, so donations are encouraged. All proceeds from Madaraka Fest go toward One Vibeâs Education Music and Art Program (EMAP) in Kisumu, Kenya, which offers youth workshops in dance, music, fashion, theatre, and more. Generally, the non-profit focuses on promoting social welfare, environmental, and economic empowerment for kids in Manyatta, Kenya, with EMAP offering a safe space for community and creativity. Get into the vibe!Â
