Jazz up your Saturday with Cocina Barelas‘s biggest event, an annual celebration of a beloved New Mexican culinary tradition. At the event, held at Old Stove Brewing Ship Canal, enjoy music and beer while taking in the sights and smells of fresh Hatch green chiles tumbling and roasting over an open flame.

Buy some to take home; they can be frozen and used throughout the year to liven up your recipes, as any New Mexico native will confirm. Also enjoy fan-favorite items (think quesotacos and Frito pie tacos) from Cocina Barelas, a pop-up founded by Albuquerque native and longtime touring musician Dave Hernandez (The Shins), who’s inspired by the comforting family dishes he grew up savoring — and missing while on tour.

“While touring, I struggled to find the food I grew up with and, as I toured less, the same was true in my hometown of Seattle,” shared Dave. “After spending years of bringing people together through music, I found a new stage behind a flattop grill, bringing the same creative spirit and connection that defined so much of my life — this time through delicious food.”
