A majestic display of architectural and engineering excellence, the tip of the Burj Khalifa pierces the sky 2,717 feet in the air, making it the tallest structure on earth. But that’s thousands of miles away in Dubai. What if you could marvel at the sight of the Burj Khalifa and other gravity-defying skyscrapers from around the world all in the same place? Well, soon you’ll be able to when Towers of Tomorrow arrives at the Museum of History & Industry.
Open from May 25th through September 29th, the exhibit will feature architecturally accurate Lego replicas of some of the world’s most innovative skyscrapers from North America, Asia, and Australia. In addition to the Burj Khalifa, the exhibit will feature 20 skyscrapers including Taiwan’s Taipei 101, New York City’s Empire State Building, Shanghai Tower, Toronto’s CN Tower, and many more. The project was overseen by Ryan Mcnaught, one of only 21 LEGO certified professionals worldwide, whose team used over 577,000 bricks (that’s 1.5 tons in weight!) and dedicated over 2,400 hours to the project.
And if you’re feeling inspired after taking in the magnitude and detail of each tower, 200,000 loose Lego bricks will be available for visitors to build their own towers of tomorrow to add to the exhibit. For kids exploring their creativity and adults reconnecting with their inner child, this exhibit offers something for everyone in the family.
Through compelling exhibits, scholarship, education, public programs, and community engagement, MOHAI bridges the past, present, and future.
