‘Edie Arnold is a Loser’ @ Cinemas Near You

“Edie Arnold is a Loser” is for anyone who ever felt like, well, a loser when they were in high school. And that’s all of us. Everyone seemed to hate you, every obstacle felt like the end of the world and the harder you tried, the worse it seemed to get. And if you went to Catholic high school (raises hand), add ill-fitting uniforms, rigid religious dogma and a couple thousand years of shame to that equation.

That’s where we find Edie, stuck playing drums in her school choir and fantasizing about anything but her stifling southern surroundings. But when she and her excitable (and scene-stealing) bestie Frances sneak their way into a punk show, their whole world blows wide open. Before you know it, they’ve roped in two more of their outcast friends and created The Nundead, the most kickass teen punk band suburban Florida has ever seen. Finally, a place to put all their adolescent rage, confusion and erratic hormones. Now they just need to make sure they don’t run afoul of the fire-and-brimstone nuns at Our Lady of Undying Sadness.

Confidently, deliriously co-directed by Megan Rico and Kade Atwood, “Edie Arnold” is a breezy, hilarious headbanger of a comedy for the women of punk rock who paved the way and the generations that followed.

A crowd-pleaser of the highest order, it played this past year’s Seattle International Film Festival where it won the Golden Space Needle Audience Award for Best Picture. And now you have a chance to catch it locally during its roadshow tour.
