Chocolate. The word alone has the power to conjure up a lifetime of memories and associations. Chocolate, itself, has enraptured humans for thousands of years: from Ancient Aztec and Mayan Civilizations to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory—and yet, many chocolate lovers are left wondering…
🌎 “Where does chocolate come from?”
👨🍳 “How is chocolate made?” and
🍫 “What does 70%” actually mean, anyway?”
Soon you’ll be able to head to Bellevue and find out. From October 4th – 6th, the Meydenbauer Center will be abuzz with chocolate makers, chocolate experts, and chocolate lovers from every corner of the globe for the Northwest Chocolate Festival. Peruse artisanally-crafted chocolate products from over 100 vendors—from local companies like Selberg’s Sweets and Seattle’s Indi Chocolate to Metiche Chocolate from Mexico, Thailand-based Siyamaya Chocolate, Fjak Chocolate in Norway and more.
If you’re interested in taking a deeper dive, workshops for every kind of interest level will be available. Watch guest chefs demonstrate methods of chocolate confections and the art of tempering or listen to seasoned chocolate makers explore how changing the cocoa roast level can dramatically affect the flavor of the finished chocolate. You can also sit in on panelists as they discuss things like chocolate’s relation to climate change and social impact along with the science behind cacao genetics, flavor development, and sensory experiences.
And what would a chocolate festival be without tasting opportunities? Rest assured, you’ll be able to taste, savor, and devour chocolate in every imaginable form.
The Northwest Chocolate Festival welcomes chocoholics, the cocoa-curious, and even friendly choco-skeptics to celebrate and experience the wonders of chocolate.
