In its 13th year, the Seattle Asian American Film Festival (SAAFF) is the only local film festival dedicated to pan-Asian American storytelling. The festival kicked off at Wing Luke Museum with a reception that included performances by Mak Fai Lion & Dragon Dance Association, DJ Magic Sean and visual artists Phu and Peter Lee.

The festival is streaming virtually through June 29, so you can watch bold films by Asian American storytellers from the comfort of your own home.

🎬Films you won’t want to miss:

  • Part of the Songs of Struggle block — Nobuko Miyamoto: A Song in Movement — is a documentary that follows the life of visionary artist-activist Nobuko Miyamoto.
  • Elijah is a film about a Bengali Muslim taxi driver and his trans child navigating life in transphobic immigrant culture.
  • Ah-Ma Burns combines magical realism and humor as an ailing Chinese grandma tries to reunite with her dead husband.
  • Part of the PNW Shorts series — Edibles—follows two sisters who get into a fight during a road trip.

With layered programming, community focus and deeply personal storytelling, SAAFF is a journey toward representation through art.
