And just like that, the Seattle Seahawks went from bust to boom, finishing up their 2025-2026 with a franchise-high 14 regular-season wins and securing the NFC #1 seed. Give it up to Mike Macdonald, who proved to be the right coach for a new era, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for blowing past Metcalfâs receiving yards record, and Sam Darnold for not being Geno Smith. (Letâs check out the Las Vegas Raidersâ final W-L record with our old QB and head coach for comparison. 3-14? Ouch.)
Now Seattle is back from their bye week to faceâŚoh, just their longtime rival. So SoDo better prepare themselves for the figurative earthquake thatâs going to hit Lumen Field and its surroundings this Saturday as the Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC Divisional Game. Tickets are still very much available. I totally understand not wanting to pay [checks Ticketmaster] $500 minimum for a single seat, but Seattle is a favorite to make it all the way and youâll want to be a part of that story. And it would also be hilarious to dominate the Niners and then play the Super Bowl at the preselected venue ofâŚthat teamâs home stadium in Santa Clara.
In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess to being a little torn. I grew up in the Bay with the 49ers during the Montana/Rice/Young years, when one could argue they were in the running for âAmericaâs Teamâ (thereâs a new one every few years) and when they, well, actually played in San Francisco. But Iâm approaching 20 years of living in Seattle and want whatâs best for my adopted city. Because of the teamâs record-breaking year, and because I really want to see them make up for their heartbreaking Super Bowl XLIX loss to the Patriots, Iâm pulling for the Hawks. More than anything, though, I hope they all have fun.
