This spring, The 5th Avenue Theatre presents the critically-acclaimed musical Parade directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden. Parade first ran on Broadway from 1998 through 1999 and, in the years since, the production has gained a devoted following due to its powerful narrative and incredible score. Based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager wrongfully accused of murder, Parade follows the story of Leo and his wife, Lucille, as they fight for justice in rural Georgia.
The show delves into the themes of antisemitism, media bias, and a broken justice system while still delivering a message of hope, resilience, and the power of love. Parade was selected as a Criticβs Pick by The New York Times, with the outlet describing it as βthe best-sung musical in many a New York season. It recalls an era of big casts, big stories, and big talent β a time when musicals actually felt like events.β In addition to its strong social justice theme, Parade is renowned for its soundtrack by Jason Robert Brown, which blends traditional musical theatre with Southern gospel, folk, and ragtime influences.
