Weāre always told to reach for the stars, but what if the stars could reach for us? This winter, at the Seattle Chinese Garden, theyāve come down to earth to light up your night. Every night in December and 3 – 4 days a week in January, Astra Lumina will present immersive projection, light, and sound along the pathway of a one-hour walk through the botanical garden. Over the course of the walk, visitors will witness a story of falling stars, cosmic choirs, and astral genesis.
Beautiful natural light is hard to come by at this time of year in Seattleāthatās partly why we hang Christmas lights. For those of us who miss stargazing, this brings us a few steps closer, or rather, brings the stars closer to us. This is an all-ages event; while youāll see plenty of families, Astra Lumina is also a cute low-pressure first date opportunity. Seeing light displays of wonder and your date illuminated by said lights as you explore the garden together? Thatās a win-win in our book.
Any time of year, the Seattle Chinese Garden is worth a visit. Pavilions, courtyards, the Chongqing Entry Gatehouse, and bamboo groves sit on a plateau overlooking the Seattle Harbor on the north end of South Seattle College. Astra Lumina will complement this grounded beauty with the awe of interstellar light. Get your tickets here!
