Some time around the 1990s, the world began to take Seattle more seriously. Thankfully, Almost Live! never did. Airing on KING 5 from 1984 to 1999, the show poked fun at the emerging tech, grunge, and coffee scenes. Bellevue and Ballard were frequent targets (especially Ballard—who can forget the High Fiven White Guys?), but no part of the region was safe.

The show gave us unforgettable moments like the COPS segment featuring a Mercer Island scofflaw busted for selling counterfeit Evian, the first settlers arriving at Alki Point demanding lattes, and yes, it birthed Bill Nye the Science Guy!

MOHAI’s new exhibit features:

  • 🎽 “Speed Walker” sweatshirt and other iconic costumes
  • 🗞 Original props and production materials
  • 🎦 Classic episode clips and memorable sketches
  • 🌲 Interactive “Pike or Pine” game (spoiler: everyone’s still confused)

💡Pro tip: The exhibit thoughtfully addresses dated content with context cards explaining terms and stereotypes from the era. Visit on First Thursdays for free admission, or pair your visit with lunch at MOHAI’s waterfront cafe.
