You know how by January 3rd you’re furious with yourself for already breaking your new year’s resolutions? Maybe you couldn’t last three days in the dead of winter without a sip of IPA. Or you’ve already failed to call your estranged parents for another year. (Let’s not even talk about that stack of Entertainment Weekly magazines taking over your coffee table, even though they stopped printing physical issues two years ago.)

My suggestion? Don’t feel bad. Just channel that weird self-critical energy into being an audience member at this year’s Wet City Comedy Festival, taking over the Crocodile Complex for 2025’s first weekend. The 2024 edition brought heavy hitters like Joel Kim Booster and Pat Regan, and now the bookers have seriously upped their game with a mix of nationally renowned headliners and locally lauded joketellers.

Leading the charge is the extraordinary weirdo herself Maria Bamford. Depending on your age/interests, you might know her from hundreds of family-friendly cartoon voiceover roles or as the strangely vulnerable comic who nakedly plumbs the depths of her anxious consciousness. And if you’re supercool, you know her for both. She’ll helm a cadre of brilliant comedians each night on the mainstage, while the festival spreads throughout the complex with unique offerings like a murder mystery party, throwback karaoke, and wine tasting.

Beyond the main stage shows, don’t miss:

  • Y2K25 Karaoke: Relive the scariest New Year’s ever with 90s bangers and foam party vibes
  • Wine Tasting at Madame Lou’s: Comics curate natural wines and natural laughs
  • Only Murders in The Crocodile: A multi-course mystery dinner with cocktails and, well, murder

Come for one night, come for the whole weekend, just show up for the wine—whatever you’d like. It’s a new year! Do whatever you want! Life is short and comedy helps!
