Seattle Ballooning is partnering once again with Seattle Center for a mesmerizing evening of illuminated hot air balloons: Seattle Glow!

The event kicks off with tunes by DJ Lucky Strike (music director for the Seattle Thunderbirds) at 8 p.m., building up the energy until local balloon pilots ignite and inflate their 100-foot hot air balloons at 9 p.m. Last year’s premiere event saw over 15,000 people in attendance, so you’ll want to arrive early!

Afraid of heights? Never fear, as the balloons remain tethered to the ground — think more light show than height show! As the sun sets on the longest day of the year, aka the summer solstice, the balloons will alight against the darkening sky, creating an unforgettable visual experience. If you’re so inclined, this is a great opportunity to exercise your photography and videography skills, but note that drones are prohibited.

Be sure to cross your fingers for good weather, as wind and rain may result in postponing the event. But if all goes according to plan, you’ll want to pack a blanket and camp chairs to bring along to Fisher Pavilion and establish your spot. Be sure to also bring along water, layers and anything else you’ll need to stay comfy in the evening outdoors. If you ran out of time to grab dinner, don’t fret, the Armory will be open if anyone in your party gets hungry.

Looking to take things up a notch? While Seattle Ballooning isn’t offering rides at this particular event, you can book a separate sunrise or sunset flight adventure with them here.

This one-of-a-kind experience is free to attend and open to all ages, so bring a group and make a real night of it!
