Northwest African American Museum’s annual celebration — Juneteenth: The Sound of Connection — is offering up plenty of indoor and outdoor activity for this year’s Juneteenth commemoration.

Booths, vendors, performances and more will be taking place both within the museum and around neighboring Judkins Park, in partnership with the RAVE Foundation (the philanthropic branch of Seattle Sounders and Seattle Reign), which works to increase playfields and access to soccer for communities across Washington state.

And speaking of soccer, one of the day’s activities includes a World Cup watch party — the U.S. will be playing Australia that day in Seattle. But if soccer isn’t your thing, there will be plenty of other sources of inspiration and engagement.

The event will include the Skate to Freedom Party (open to all roller skating skill levels) with Roll Around Seatown in the park, a performance by Living Voices of its “Fly for Freedom” show, a workshop on Octavia Butler presented by Sistah Scifi, a fireside chat-style Community Conversations discussion in Legacy Hall, plus free admission all day to the museum.

Artists participating in the museum’s Black Art Takeover will be showcasing their work and available to speak with visitors, including muralist Myron Curry, portrait artist Yolanda Galery, sports and entertainment artist TR Miles and more!

All this fun is sure to work up an appetite, and food trucks such as BlackStar Kebab and PJ’s Classic Homemade Style Ice Cream and Bon Bons will be on hand serving up delectable bites. Local shop vendors and nonprofits will also be setup for a chance to support small businesses and learn more about community organizations.

Whether you decide to attend one activity, or all of them, it’s sure to be a memorable day!
