Shed last year’s skin and embrace the Year of the Snake at Tết, Seattle’s vibrant Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration. This free, family-friendly festival transforms the Armory into a bustling hub of cultural traditions, mouthwatering food, and dazzling performances that has brought the community together since 1996, when four Vietnamese organizations created this celebration of shared culture.
Every winter, Vietnamese people worldwide celebrate Tết—a three-to-five-day celebration of rebirth, family, and life. Red and yellow (auspicious colors) abound as celebrants feast on traditional dishes like bánh chung and bánh tết, set up altars to honor ancestors, and don their finest outfits. Part of Seattle Center’s Festál series, this two-day celebration features spectacular lion dances complete with firecrackers, traditional music performances, and hands-on activities.
Come hungry—local vendors serve up the city’s finest Vietnamese cuisine. Warm up with rich Vietnamese coffee, crispy bánh mì, savory crepes, and sweet matcha mooncakes. Between bites, catch the stunning áo dài fashion shows, visit the all-inclusive health fair offering free screenings, or create snake-themed crafts while adults browse artisan vendor stalls packed with traditional goods and contemporary Vietnamese-American designs.
2025 welcomes the Year of the Wood Snake, symbolizing intelligence, adaptability, and regeneration. So those born in 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, and 1965, take note—this is your year!
