The Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic presented by Alaska Airlines isn’t just a ride—it’s a challenge, a tradition, and a journey through the best of the Pacific Northwest. For 46 years, the 206-mile ride through Western Washington has been a staple for the diverse bicycling communities in our region. Whether you’re an experienced rider pushing yourself to finish in one day, a casual rider savoring the experience over two, or somewhere in between, STP is sure to provide an unforgettable adventure.
It’s also accessible to a variety of ages and skill levels—a feat not all rides can boast. Starting early in the morning in the UW E-18 parking lot (aka the big one north of Husky Stadium), there are numerous rest stops for food, drink, and community along the route, with fun traditions, too. There’s the essential ice cream stop in Centralia, a reward for riders nearing the halfway point, and the famous banana bread lady, who’s been serving banana bread to thousands of riders for decades. Chehalis marks the official halfway point—with camping areas, food, showers, and a beer garden for two-day riders. The finish line in Portland’s Holladay Park near Lloyd Center is also equipped with food, (another) beer garden, finisher T-shirts and badges, and a photo arch to celebrate.
Come check this PNW rite of passage off your bucket list, and join 6,000 others in a celebration of camaraderie, joy, and the urban and rural beauty that make this region unique.
