Are the hairs on the back of your neck prickling? Are goosebumps rising along your arms? The spooky season is officially here, and Pacific Northwest Ballet is celebrating in spectral style. For just ten days this November, PNB will present their “Ghost Stories,” three ballets with eerie themes, ephemeral outfits and hauntingly beautiful choreography, plus one full moon.

First is George Balanchine’s one-act ballet “La Sonnambula,” the tale of a beautiful sleepwalker and the misfortune in her wake, which returns to PNB after a nearly 20-year absence. Next are two contrasting pieces by Alejandro Cerrudo that highlight his moody (“Silent Ghost”) and witty (“Pacopepepluto”) sides, offering a full picture of this modern choreographer’s style.

Last but not least, principal dancer Kyle Davis will present a world premiere work inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s famous narrative poem “The Raven,” set to Alexander Dreyschock’s “Morceau de concert.” As Davis notes, finding Dreyschock’s music was no easy task, even with PNB Orchestra’s helpful resources. But finally, “A box filled with yellowed, tattered pages — incomplete and barely legible — was found in the depths of the Edwin A. Fleisher Collection of Orchestral Music at the Free Library of Philadelphia, less than a mile and a half away from Poe’s Philadelphia home,” Davis explains.

🌙 The “Ghost Stories” intermissions will offer something special. Performances by PNB students will pop up on six small stages throughout the McCaw Hall lobby. Each dance is unique, and dancers will change location so that audiences will see different performances during each intermission. (Excludes the Nov. 15 performance).

🐦‍⬛ Friday, Nov. 13 is Triskaidekaphobia Night. In honor of Friday the 13th, patrons attending “Ghost Stories” are encouraged to come dressed as Poe (or your favorite spooky character). Please, no birds or other nonhumans, living or dead.

Give in to inevitable goosebumps this November with “Ghost Stories” at Pacific Northwest Ballet! Tickets at PNB.org.
