Even if you’ve never heard his name, you’ve certainly seen something by Keith Haring

The late pop artist radically changed contemporary art with his graffiti-inspired, colorful, and politically outspoken work. Primarily using outlined figures and animals, Haring was prolific during his short-lived career, painting murals, canvases, the sides of buildings, and other commissioned public artwork. At the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, he was a leading voice advocating for those living with HIV and safer sex practices. Haring himself died in 1990 at the age of 31 of complications from AIDS.

Keith Haring: A Radiant Legacy is a sprawling new exhibition at the Museum of Pop Culture that surveys Haring’s decade-long career. It features a wide range of work: 240 of his pieces and objects, selections from his personal art collection, and 20 objects from artistic collaborator Angel Ortiz (LAII). The exhibition also looks at Haring’s friendship with other art world icons like Grace Jones, Madonna, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Andy Warhol. Go, smile, and weep.
