You hear that thunder in the distance? 🌩️ You better, because it’s time for another season of the Seattle Storm, the four-time WNBA champions who are ready to bring it to Climate Pledge Arena. And after a solid if not stellar 2024 — they made it to the playoffs, but they’ve been there 18 times before and the fans want rings— some retooling means there are a lot of new bodies on the court.
For their home opener against three-time champions Phoenix Mercury, familiar faces such as Ezi Magbegor, Gabby Williams and Skylar Diggins-Smith will welcome back Alysha Clark, who played for the Storm for nine years before shipping off to Washington and Vegas. But the big news around CPA are the incoming newbies, including the French six-foot-six center Dominique Malonga (WNBA draft pick #2) and Michigan Wolverines alum Jordan Hobbs, plus the professional debut of Indiana Hoosier Mackenzie Holmes, drafted last year but unable to play due to injury.
The Storm experience continues to be the most refreshing in town, with a spirited, kind and community-oriented fanbase that not only cheers on a good game of hoops but also makes sure that all walks of life feel welcome underneath the arena’s roof. It’s good for the whole family, solo outings and groups that don’t feel like blowing their ears out at a Hawks game (love you, 12th Man, but I need to bring earplugs each time I’m at Lumen).
