This year’s SEA-Nordic Film Festival trades gray Seattle skies for the windswept coastlines and cozy kitchens of Denmark. Guest curator Thomas Christensen, lead curator at the Danish Film Institute, has pulled together a lineup that’s equal parts crowd-pleasing and surprising — think Oscar winners alongside surreal deep cuts and overlooked treasures.

Audiences can revisit acclaimed classics such as “Babette’s Feast” and “The Word,” alongside contemporary worthies like the Oscar-winning “Another Round” and the animated documentary “Flee.”

The festival also shines a light on overlooked gems: “The Wedding of Palo” (1934), written by famed explorer Knud Rasmussen, offers a resonant portrait of Greenlandic traditions, while the surreal “The Man Who Thought Life” (1969) explores the landscapes of the human mind. A shorts program, including Jørgen Leth’s “Life in Denmark” and Max Kestner’s “Max By Chance,” adds further texture to this cinematic journey.

With films that span nearly a century, this year’s festival is both a celebration of Danish cultural heritage and a testament to its continued vitality. In short: expect beauty, strangeness and a few existential hangovers. Denmark has never felt so close.
