Shattered Glass Project, the 2019-founded company that amplifies the work of underrepresented artists marginalized on the basis of gender, is taking up residence at Theatre Off Jackson. Their latest, “I Will Miss You When You’re Gone,” is a comedy about a tragedy, a classic country-music infused, ghostly tale about four women struggling to find connection in a lonely modern world.
“The show walks a really fantastic line,” director Adrian Prendergast told The Ticket. “It’s a great jumping off point to open ourselves to tough conversations about isolation and grief. And those conversations feel more possible to have, because it gives us the chance to laugh while we do.”
The production comes with welcoming and enlightening events and resources surrounding the performances. “We’ve got a few post-show discussions planned: one focusing on destigmatizing suicide, one on grief and cancer support and our final weekend we’ll be teaching audience members a line dance. It’s a play about finding people, and I’m really excited about the opportunities to connect with people through the show.”
Prendergast first presented a reading of Jessica Moss’ play at Macha Theatre Works’ 2024 Distillery Festival, and the road from workshop to full production has been worth it. “Everyone working on the project has shown up on their A game [and are] really excited and enthusiastic about the process,” Prendergast continued, “and I think you can tell in the way it’s coming together.”
And if that isn’t enough to grab you: “We have a functional Roomba! A really cool 12-year-old designed it with a hollowed out Roomba and a Lego engine. I’m pretty psyched about it.”
