Duel Reality @ Seattle Rep

Star-crossed lovers. 💔 Circus-style acrobatics. 🤸 Death-defying feats of romance. 🥀 This is “Romeo and Juliet” taken to heights far beyond that infamous balcony. For the final production of Seattle Rep’s 2024/25 season, internationally acclaimed circus troupe The 7 Fingers is returning to the Bagley Wright Theater with their Shakespeare-inspired spectacle “Duel Reality.”

“In ‘Duel Reality,’ the warring Montagues and Capulets face off with a blend of jaw-dropping acrobatics, inventive physical theater and human-centered storytelling, all performed before a house divided between the two families,” says Seattle Rep artistic director Dámaso Rodríguez. The two feuding families are battling it out in an epic competition of acrobatic talent and skill as the audience cheers them on. Through it all, a pair of star-crossed lovers defy death and their relations in their fight to be together.

Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, The 7 Fingers (or Les 7 Doigts de la Main) is an artist collective redefining circus by telling human stories with superhuman skills. The group defies genres by merging acrobatics, dance, theater, music and storytelling to celebrate our humanity and the beautiful yet strange time we live in. The 7 Fingers most recently took to the Seattle Rep stage with 2023’s “Passengers,” a show about the beauty of interpersonal relationships.

With “Duel Reality,” The 7 Fingers troupe members are bringing together their signature combination of incredible physical feats, theatricality and music to tell this story of love and honor. Having toured across the country, “Duel Reality” has earned acclaim as “an extraordinary display of mind-blowing acts of balance, control, musicality and pure talent” (Theatre Weekly) and a show that “will awaken your sense of wonder” (The Boston Globe).
