📍 Woodland Park Zoo: 5500 Phinney Ave N, Seattle
Is your spoonful of green Jell-O shaking? Those impact tremors can only mean one thing: dinosaurs have returned to Seattle. This summer, fierce predators and gentle giants can once again be found peeking through the foliage of Woodland Park Zoo with the return of Dinosaur Discovery. For the next four months, the zoo’s Habitat Discovery Loop will transform into a positively prehistoric forest that’s absolutely teeming with primeval life. Even the greenery has been carefully cultivated by WPZ horticulturists to evoke the ancient world.
On your Jurassic journey, you’ll encounter 26 life-size animatronic dinosaurs (plus one massive mechanical stegosaurus) that will spark an inexorable sense of wonder even in the hardest of hearts. Where else can you stand in the shadow of the toothy Tyrannosaurus rex, contemplate the cowlike attributes of the brachiosaurus, or even consider the strangely ancient connections between theropods and a certain warlike, flightless Australian bird?
Dinosaur Discovery first arrived in Seattle five years ago, much to the delight of kids, grownups and surly teenagers alike. This year, the immersive exhibit was designed by Billings Productions, the Texas-based company that’s become a leader in the design and development of animatronics for museums, zoos and theme parks all over the world.
Woodland Park Zoo saves wildlife and inspires everyone to make conservation a priority in their lives.
