Bundle up and put on your walking shoes for this unique way to explore glowing art installations by two Seattle-based artists.
The Pilchuck Glass School is primarily known as a world-class educational training center for glass artists. But for two nights in November, the forested campus becomes an outdoor gallery where dark pathways come alive with light.
Light the Forest features works by MiNHi England and John Sharvin, who use glass, mirrored surfaces, metals and light to create intimate, immersive installations that glow in neon and LED. Strolling through the woods during this event becomes a self-guided tour of discovery where you can take as much time as you desire to engage with each work.
Take note: The Pilchuck Glass School campus is located on a working tree farm, and it can get very dark along the paths, which are uneven and steep in some areas. While this creates a magical contrast with the light installations, it can also make navigation tricky, so bring a flashlight for the best experience.
To make this a hands-on experience, pre-book a 30-minute glass-blowing workshop ($90), offered only during the event (ages 18+). With individual guidance and assistance, you’ll create your own colorful ornament out of molten glass.
