Funny and sincere? Who would’ve thought.

Walla Walla’s finest indie rock output is back! Originally formed 14 years ago at Whitman College, the quartet is hitting Belltown’s Crocodile again just in time to lighten your mood as they wittily and absurdly mess around in the world of feminine stereotypes but still keep it real in the most genuine manner. (Previous bangers include “Cool Slut,” “Pussy Weed Beer,” and “Giant (Vagina).”)

What’s the occasion? They’re swinging around to celebrate the release of their fifth studio album, Live Laugh Love. Recorded over the pandemic, they credit the album with combining the introspection of their later work with the levity of their early days. More than a decade into their career, Julia Shapiro, Lydia Lund, Annie Truscott, and Gretchen Grimm aren’t afraid to tackle difficult emotional content with thoughtfulnessmaturity, and playfulness. But most importantly, they had a blast doing it, with a focus on “more about enjoying their time together in the studio than making it feel like work.”

Meanwhile, feel free to groove in place for opening act Peel Dream Magazine, a Los Angeles-based indie-pop outfit named after BBC Radio 1 host John Peel, who share Chastity Belt’s dynamic DIY aesthetic.
