On almost any given weekend in Seattle during the summer, you can find some sort of festival to go to. Whether itâs for locally-made zines, a neighborhood food walk or block party, or the many many music and cultural fests weâre graced with, summertime in Seattle hums with community. And this is especially true for the arts. On Saturday, August 17th, the northwest corner of the Seattle Center will become an epicenter of visual and performing arts for ACES, the Artists of Color Expo & Symposium. From 10 am to 8 pm, youâll be able to dip into KEXPâs Gathering Space for free workshops and demos, art exhibitions, an art market, and live performances from BIPOC artistsâalong with artist talksâthroughout the day. Donât overwhelm yourselfâwork from over 150 artists will be on display. Make a list and take your time!
The full lineup has yet to be announced, but so far we know thereâll be a live art experience called “The Cypher“, where artists of different mediums will âconverseâ with each other through painting, poetry, and sculpting. Youâll also be able to pop into The Vera Project next door to KEXP for film screenings throughout the day.
While other events in the ACES summer series have passed or have run out of space, you can still catch the last free performance from Chamoru artist and musician Chiku Nance on August 15th at 2+U in downtown Seattle.
Shunpike works to empower artists through equitable access to vital expertise, opportunities, and business services.
