June 2 – 4

Friday, June 2nd marks the start of the 14th annual Glazer’s PhotoFest—aka their biggest sale of the year and a weekend-long photography and film bonanza. Not only is this a chance to scope out deals on cameras, lenses, bags, lighting, and more at Glazer’s (a golden opportunity for the gear obsessed), but they’ll be hosting plenty of photowalks, gear demos, workshops, and presentations for a wide range of skill levels and disciplines. And the speaker lineup is nothing to sneeze at either. Just some of the featured speakers this weekend include: John Greengo on the seven steps to creating compelling photos, photojournalist Krisanne Johnson on her methods for producing long-term documentary work, Sony Ambassador Reza Malayeri on story-based filmmaking, and National Geographic conservation photographer, writer, and filmmaker, Ami Vitale on the history of her award-winning work. If you needed any more incentive, she was also included in Instyle’s “Badass Women” series, which is simply an incredible title in our opinion.

In this talk, Vitale shares her personal journey from “documenting the heartbreaking realities of war to witnessing the inspiring power of an individual to make a difference,” during her travels to over 100 countries. Some story highlights include her work to reintroduce giant pandas into the wild (in which she dressed up in a full-body panda suit, complete with mask) and covering the creation of Kenya’s first indigenous-owned and run elephant sanctuary. If you’re in need of some inspiration or restoration in your hope for humanity this weekend, definitely make sure to listen to her presentation.

Also, did we mention these events are all free? Just make sure to register for any events you want to attend, since entry is on a first-come, first-served basis!
