If you treasure the Volunteer Park Conservatory like many other of your neighbors do, head to the park on Mother’s Day weekend for the annual Friends of the Conservatory Plant Sale. Go on Saturday to secure your mom, and maybe also yourself, a gift, or take your family on Sunday to shop and support the conservatory together.

This plant sale features all kinds of varieties from orchids to cacti, to succulents, and much more. With professional and hobbyist plant experts on-site you can be sure to buy plants that fit your needs—yes, you can still own plants if you live in a dim basement apartment, you just need some shade-lovers. Experts can advise you on the care that plants need, recommend pet-friendly and non-toxic varieties, and special plants for experienced caretakers. The plant sale is the largest Friends of the Conservatory fundraising event of the year so while you’re there, take a walk through the conservatory as well to remind yourself of what you’re supporting.

Previous Conservatory board president and volunteer, Sara Chapman will also be signing copies of her book Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory, a compilation of photographs and plant identification of the Conservatory collection by season. The sale is BYOB (bring your own box), take something with you to haul your plant bounty home, or make your mom carry it! We won’t judge.
