Are you a hobby enthusiast? Do you prefer getting hands-on instructions? Do you have excessive amounts of glitter in your closet?? Ok, that last one might just be me, but same! I love to craft! Being creative, learning new skills, and engaging with like-minded people is great for my mental well-being. That’s why I really enjoy trying different crafting classes around Seattle.

Seattleites are lucky because there are tons of classes to choose from. Want to learn glass blowing? Go for it! Want to stab felt a million times? There’s a class for that! Grab a group of friends and make it a social event, have a fun date night with your boo, or go solo and maybe make some new friends. The possibilities are endless. So, grab those scissors and glue sticks, and let’s get crafting.

⚱️ Reclaim Clay Collective
📍800 S Weller St, Suite 201, Seattle (Chinatown-International District)
📞 (206) 571-6978
🔓 Open Tuesdays – Sundays: 10 am – 9 pm
💸 Sliding scale pricing

This POC, queer, women-owned community pottery and art studio is located in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. What was once a historic fortune cookie factory is now a lovely studio space centered around community and a generous sliding scale pricing to make art accessible. Instructors offer ceramics classes (one-offs) and workshops (multi-week) in either hand building or wheel throwing. The throwing class I attended was well-instructed, super fun, and very messy (all me). The studio also offers Risograph classes, a digital screen printing technique commonly used to make zines. Your fortune says, “Support local!

The Vera Project

🎛 The Vera Project
📍 305 Harrison St, Seattle (Seattle Center)
📞 (206) 956-8372
🔓 Open Tuesdays – Saturdays: 12 – 5 pm

💸 $40 – $60

Since 2001, The Vera Project has operated as a nonprofit, all-ages space that fosters collaboration through music, art, and radical self-expression. Many classes focus on building skills and opportunities for entering the music industry. Check out the screen printing and fabric printing classes to scratch that crafting itch, but don’t ignore the sound mixing, concert lighting, and other technical arts, such as learning how to DJ (call me DJ Sweet Cheeks). You can learn and hone many skills at Vera, where Seattle’s grunge scene still lives and thrives in this eclectic space.

Monster

Ballard, Seattle

👹 Monster
📍 1716 NW Market St, Seattle
📞 (206) 789-0037
🔓 Open Mondays – Fridays: 12 – 6:30 pm
🔓 Open Saturdays – Sundays: 11 am – 6:30 pm
💸 $5 – $180

To NW Market Street you must go to find this quirky retail store, that’s solely dedicated to supporting local independent artists from the Pacific Northwest. We dare you to peruse the carefully curated shop without being inspired by all the lovely crafts! Luckily, the store also hosts a wide range of creative classes such as embroidery, tufting (gimme that yarn gun asap!), felting, and much more. I highly recommend checking out their monthly after-hours meetup, “Gather,” where people are encouraged to hang out, work on their projects, and maybe make some new crafting buddies.

📞 (206) 328-2200
🔓 Open Daily: 9 am – 10 pm
💸 Free – $$$

Cute suggestions so far, but what if I want to forge and hammer and burn stuff??!! Well, my little Viking, you can head to the Pratt Fine Arts Center (PFAC) to smelt and weld to your heart’s content. PFAC is another great local nonprofit whose mission is to make art education accessible to everyone! Artists teach their classes in a professional studio space designed for all ages and skill levels. Linocut, glass blowing, and blacksmithing are just a few hands-on classes from their prolific class catalog. Sadly, pillaging is currently not offered.

The Works Seattle

Fremont, Seattle

🎨 The Works Seattle
📍 3516 Fremont Pl N, Seattle
📞 (206) 475-5974
💸 $40 – $100

If you prefer a craft class that provides all the materials, and you walk out the door with a completed project, look no farther than the woman-owned and operated The Works Seattle. I’d describe their craft class offerings as Instagramable, with projects such as flower pressing, batiking, and modern kintsugi. You’re bound to take home a craft that’s cool and unique. Plus, an adorable variety of DIY kits are available to take home or even gift to your crafty bestie. The Works Seattle is also one of the few spaces that offers corporate team-building events, in case you want to learn to macramé with your coworkers.
