Where to Shop in Seattle on Record Store Day 2023

Let’s go crate digging ⛏️

Record Store Day has been a divisive concept for over a decade. On the one hand, RSD typically boosts sales substantially for brick-and-mortar shops; it’s like Christmas in April, but with better music.

On the other hand, small indie labels suffer delays with their vinyl releases due to the majors clogging pressing plants with reissues of titles already teeming in bargain bins. Plus, many RSD items are simply gimmicky cash-ins. And let’s not forget those damnable flippers. Nevertheless, the holiday annually yields enough crucial gems to make the aggravations tolerable.

This year’s reissues and archival digs include Wrecking Crew drummer Hal Blaine’s awesome Psychedelic Percussion, post-punk legends The Slits’ Rough Cut, David Bowie’s Laughing With Liza: The Vocalion And Deram Singles 1964-1967, trip-hop maverick Tricky’s Pre-Millennium Tension, a 20th anniversary edition of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People, Wu-Tang Clan wildcard Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return To The 36 Chambers: Dirty Version, goth overlords Siouxsie & The Banshees’ A Kiss In The Dream House, volatile actor Crispin Hellion Glover’s lone, oddball LP, country outlier Orville Peck’s Bronco, an expanded 2xLP edition of Tom Tom Club’s fun and funky self-titled debut, live albums by NicoStevie NixNas, and Sun Ra, Taylor Swifts’s folkore: the long pond studio sessions, and more.
