I first met Mx. Pucks A’Plenty“The They/Them Yas Queen of Burlesque,” at last year’s Juneteenth celebration, where they were tabling to share about this festival and the work done by BIPOC burlesque producers and performers in the PNW. I legit SQUEALED at the idea of an ALL BIPOC burlesque festival set to FUNK!!! Cue flashbacks to me as a little girl watching my tipsy aunties dancing to “She’s A Bad Mama Jama” (Just as FIIIINE as she can BEeeee).

You cannot QUANTIFY the experience of watching BLACK FOLK do they THANG. So all I gotta say about What the Funk?! has already been said in the question mark + exclamation point following the festival’s name. BUT if ya want a little more from me in the spirit of burlesque, I will TEASE YA before I PLEASE YA.

Those producers and performers I mentioned in the first paragraph? They’re out here putting on this festival and other offerings like the SUMMER CAMP SLASHERa narrative burlesque show held at THE GIVE INN on September 2 and 3! Plus more like CURVE COLLECTIVE CABARET, the PNW-based FAT collective, and NO CLOSET FOLLIES, a burlesque showcase produced by Pucks.
