U District $4 Food Walk 2023 @ The University District

We live in a major food city with more diverse offerings than you can shake a stick at. But with this responsibility and this bizarre world and this weird country comes ever-increasing prices, until one day you’re left paying $30 for a plate of lamb rogan josh. You worked hard for that money, and you’d like a little bang for your buck, yeah?

Then you’re going to have a great time at the third annual U District $4 Food Walk. The idea is right there in the description: dozens of restaurants and shops along University Way and Brooklyn Avenue (and a few outside this corridor!) will sell mini versions of their delicious goods for four dollars a pop, which you can enjoy with free live music and other entertainment at the main stage right outside Bulldog News.

Here’s an idea of what to expect and which of the 70 businesses you may want to prioritize.

🥐 Interested in whatever the hell a croffle is? Head to Café Canuc and find out how a croissant-waffle tastes.

🐔 Want to snarf on some fried chicken as you walk up and down the Ave? There’s Call A Chicken, Chi Mac, Boba Up, and Kai’s Thai Street Food and Bar, plus non-fried poultry offerings at BB’s Teriyaki Grill, and Mama’s Viet Kitchen.

🍣 🌯 How about trying out a sushi burrito? Get what is essentially a starter pack at IJ Sushi Burrito.

🍄 End your day on the water at Agua Verde Café with your choice of suadero (meat) or boniato (sweet potatoes) tacos.
