Constantly falling apart and rebuilding through rapid change, humans are endlessly resilient. In an ever-changing universe, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Skin of Our Teeth is a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit. A rarely-seen treat for theater enthusiasts due to its unconventional structure, large cast, and ambitious scope, this play opens Seattle Rep’s 2024/25 season.

Join Wilder’s Antrobus family for their 5000th wedding anniversary, as they face an ice age, a great flood, war, family drama, and what might just be the end of the world. Although it boasts an absurd and satirical tone, a wildly surreal set, and a faulty fourth wall, The Skin of Our Teeth offers a space for reflection on current societal challenges and human resilience—which is certainly welcome right now.

With sets, costumes, and props built by Seattle Rep and dozens of community guest stars, prepare for performances jam-packed with energy. Also making his directorial debut is Seattle Rep’s artistic director, Dámaso Rodríguez—who has a 20-year history with the play. Along with the chaos of the play itself, each performance is sure to take its own unique shape.

Seattle Rep puts theater at the heart of public life, elevating the diverse cultures and perspectives of the Pacific Northwest.
