The Lord of the Rings & Hobbit Trilogies @ SIFF Cinema Downtown

You shall not pass this up 🧙‍♀️💍

📸: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

📅  Friday, February 2nd – Thursday, February 15th
🎟 $14.50 – $19.50 | Tickets on sale Wednesday, January 10th
📍 SIFF Cinema Downtown: 2100 4th Ave, Seattle

Yes, we have lush meadows and fearsome mountains and volcanos and whatnot. And there are a lot of Tolkien-themed businesses, apartment buildings, and WiFi names in Seattle. But try as we might, and no matter how many fantasy books the PNW reads (and it’s a lot), we’ll never truly live in something approaching the warm embrace of the Shire. But the SIFF Cinema Downtown (FKA Cinerama) is the next best thing in town in terms of sheer community spirit, and the arts non-profit is giving you a chance to sit among your fellow hairy-footed brethren and celebrate Peter Jackson’s entire Lord of the Rings series, much as you would, say, Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday.

You’ll also be there for some time, as SIFF will be showing the extended editions of the LOTR trilogy; not a single one of these comes in at fewer than 228 minutes. These director’s cuts were initially made for home video, so consider this a chance to be in a plush chair and have a bag of chocolate popcorn while letting Tolkien’s universe wash all over you, thanks to the theater’s massive, curved screen and state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos sound system. Because when you’re defending Helm’s Deep, you need full immersion to properly stop Saruman’s forces. (Your home entertainment setup is probably spiffy, but the Downtown is spiffier.)

Your time in Middle-earth doesn’t end with Aragorn’s ascension to the throne and Frodo leaving for the Undying Lands, as SIFF will also be showing the blockbuster Hobbit trilogy, where you can see how Bilbo got that dang ring in the first place in addition to witnessing Benedict Cumberbatch in a motion-capture suit making dragon noises.
