Hey, theater geeks! Want to pack 5+ musicals into one weekend? Musicals that haven’t already been discussed/performed/karaoke’d to death? The Village Theater’s Festival of New Musicals features four up-and-comers on the national musical theater circuit—performed and directed by locals—plus a mini-festival of three musicals written in 24 hours.

There’s a lot of ground to cover here, but I’m most excited about Perpetual Sunshine and the Ghost Girls. It’s the true story of the women known as the Radium Girls, who painted glow-in-the-dark dials for the U.S. Radium Corporation. The general public didn’t know radium was dangerous yet, but their bosses sure did—and still instructed them to lick their paintbrushes. The musical is about their fight for justice. The playwright-composer team also wrote a musical about famed anarchist Emma Goldman, so I’m hoping that one will be an anticapitalist good time.

Baked! The Musical also seems cool. Two high schoolers, an overachiever and her degenerate best friend, start a Chinese bakery cannabis empire in a story inspired by the writers’ experiences as children of immigrants.

The admission process is a little out of the ordinary—it requires buying a single-day membership to the Village Theater for each day you plan on attending—but you can figure it out. Check our ticket link below.
