Sustainable Ballard has a unique spin on your run-of-the-mill garden tour — the Edible Garden Tour!
Along the route, you’ll discover different possibilities from gardeners on what you can grow and the techniques that help food-producing plants flourish. You’ll have a chance to ask questions and observe different garden foods in their growing process, such as zucchinis, beans and tomatoes, as well as rhubarb and greens, plus strawberries and raspberries — yum!
The tour is self-guided and open to all ages, so you can go at your own pace, either on foot or by bike. Grab tickets by registering online, or purchase at the tour’s start point: coworking space Collective Chemistry. A ticket gets you a tour map to stops in southeast Ballard and your donation further supports community projects by Sustainable Ballard.
The organization launched in 2003, inspired by the idea of building a sustainable neighborhood in Ballard that can thrive socially and environmentally without depleting resources for future generations. The nonprofit offers an array of resources from providing events to learning activities, community service projects, a tool lending library for the community and more.
In its 17th year, the Edible Garden Tour offers the opportunity to get to know your community better and how to start some urban garden projects of your own or pick up some valuable tips — even if you’re a seasoned cultivator of all things green!
Looking to further support Sustainable Ballard? Purchase two raffle tickets for $5 and you’ll have a chance at winning gift cards to local restaurants and businesses. Happy garden touring!
