Back by popular demand, Bay St. Outdoor Cinema and Sunset Flicks return to downtown Bellingham’s Arts District this August, bringing together Pickford Film Center and the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra.
After its successful debut last year, the series has grown — offering audiences another chance to experience movies under the evening sky plus one night of live orchestral performance paired with short silent films.
Set against the backdrop of Bellingham’s long summer sunsets, this year’s lineup features two evenings of Keanu Reeves films — “Speed” on July 31 and “The Matrix” on August 14 — plus an evening of vintage shorts and animation accompanied by live orchestral performance on Friday, August 28.
The expansion to three nights reflects the community’s enthusiastic response to last year’s event, which became a seasonal highlight for audiences of all ages. Whether you’re a film lover, a music enthusiast or simply looking for a unique summer night out, Bay St. Outdoor Cinema offers an inviting, family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the arts in a distinctly Bellingham way.
“We’re thrilled to bring Sunset Flicks back for a second year and to make it part of the Bay St. Outdoor Cinema,” says BSO Executive Director Gail Ridenour. “What began as a fun collaboration between us and the Pickford quickly proved that our community loves to experience live music and film together in new ways. We can’t wait to gather downtown once again for unforgettable evenings under the summer sky.”
Bring a chair and blanket, gather your friends and settle in — Sunset Flicks is back at the Bay St. Outdoor Cinema, bigger and better than ever.
The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra and Pickford Film Center present a one-of-a-kind arts event that combines outdoor cinema with live music.
