In the dauntless (musical) crusade for women’s right to vote, sister suffragette Mrs. Banks of “Mary Poppins” fame walked so “SUFFS” could run. 🌂

A reflection of the real-life women who stood on each other’s shoulders for the right to vote, “SUFFS” celebrates the fact that behind powerful women … are more powerful women. Yes, “SUFFS” tells the story of the women’s suffrage movement in America en route to the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. But more importantly, it places the spotlight on the brilliant, passionate and funny American women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote.

Created by Shaina Taub, praised as “the future of musical theater” (Lin-Manuel Miranda), “SUFFS” comes straight to The 5th Avenue Theatre from Broadway.

Step into a world of political intrigue, stirring anthems and unexpected humor as headstrong activist Alice Paul challenges established suffrage leader Carrie Chapman Catt, while Ida B. Wells demands an inclusive movement for all women. As the Chicago Tribune writes, “‘SUFFS’ does what all of the best Broadway musicals do: It humanizes, empowers, entertains and moves an audience.”

Why “SUFFS” is a theatrical highlight:

  • Award-winning: Shaina Taub is the first woman to win Tony Awards for both Best Book and Best Score in the same season. Her music blends wit, emotion and power that lingers long after the show ends.
  • Moving and inspiring: With unforgettable music and star performances, “SUFFS” is a riveting, uplifting experience that resonates today.
  • A vital story: More than a history lesson, “SUFFS” showcases women who challenged assumptions and changed America.

This September, experience a powerful, joyful tribute to women who refused to be silenced. Their story reminds us that change requires passion, persistence — and great music.

The national tour of SUFFS kicks off at The 5th Avenue Theatre.
