Putting the soul in summer 🌊

There’s something about the combination of music and sunshine that screams summer.
Africatown’s Soul on the Water event is an all-ages free celebration that offers tunes and activities overlooking the bay at Pier 62. A partnership between Africatown Community Land Trust and Friends of Waterfront Seattle, the event is part of Africatown’s “Summer of Soul” series that celebrates Seattle’s Black culture, history, and community. (Other upcoming events include Reunion on Union on July 15th, highlighting the Central District, and the culminating Umoja Fest African Heritage Festival and Parade in August.)
Soul on the Water delivers soul to the Emerald City—plus hands-on games, face painting, and tasty food kiosks. Comedian Boeblast will host soul-stirring performances from Tacoma-based artist Zhanea June, R&B group Surround Sound Band and headliner Jac Ross. DJ Sean Malik will drop beats to bop, so get your summertime sway on. A pro tip: Hit one of the participating businesses during the event, and you can park for free for up to two hours. What’s a trip to the waterfront without a visit to Ye Olde Curiosity Shop to say hi to Sylvia the mummy?
