Y’all got any more of them raindrops on roses? How about whiskers on kittens? And I definitely hope you have cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels in stock. You do? I’ll be right there.
It’s the Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music, a tradition at The 5th Avenue Theatre, where you and your family will be able to, well, sing along with the 1965 Rodgers-and-Hammerstein musical, a Best Picture winner and one of the most popular and beloved films of all time. And though you may physically be in downtown Seattle, you will magically find yourself whisked away to 1930s Salzburg, Austria, along with free-spirited governess Maria (Julie Andrews), the widowed Captain (Christopher Plummer), and the numerous Von Trapp children as they learn to love, love to learn, and band together against the encroaching Nazi threat. If you don’t know all the words to “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” or “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” don’t fret, as the film will be projected with subtitles so even the newest of revelers can join the Von Trapp Family Singers.
In The 5th’s grand tradition, there’s more to the festivities than just the film, as the four-hour event includes a fancy dress competition (show that Baroness what’s what!) and a magic moments fun pack (here’s hoping for tiny goat puppets that yodel). There are three opportunities to experience this Seattle mainstay, two of which are matinees, and all chock-full of mirth. You won’t have to climb ev’ry mountain to have a glorious weekend outing with your most cherished loved ones.
The 5th Avenue Theatre is one of America’s leading musical theater companies, spreading the joy of musicals with all ages.
