Back in January, on the last day of the regular season, the Seattle Seahawks and LA Rams played an emotional roller coaster of a game.

Down by three and with only minutes left, the Hawks delivered a game-tying field goal. They quickly got the ball back but, with three seconds left, dinged an attempted 46-yard field goal off the post, forcing the game into overtime. But not all was lost, as cornerback Quandre Diggs intercepted a long Rams pass, Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker III moved the ball down the field for another three-point attempt, and the Seahawks won! The stranger next to me gave me the world’s biggest bear hug, tears in his eyes, his voice rough from screaming. (There was also a dachshund/corgi race at halftime.)

I hope this spectacular memory will be on everybody’s mind when the Hawks and Rams reunite for Seattle’s season opener at Lumen Field. It’s a sport full of constant motion within the ranks, so we won’t quite know who makes it into the active roster. But of special interest for this game is 33-year-old linebacker Bobby Wagner, an all-star and Seahawks fan favorite who left us at the end of the 2021 season and spent one single year away playing for (wouldn’t you know it?) the Rams. But now he’s back and the crowd will lose their minds welcoming him with open arms.

Hoist that 12th Man flag high. The Seahawks are back, baby.
