It’s time to Stand Up for Seattle.
Seattle Reign FC kicks off their 2025 season on Saturday, March 15th at Lumen Field, facing off against NJ/NY Gotham — a rematch of the 2023 NWSl final in which Gotham won 2-1. Boo.
While the Reign had a disappointing end to their 2024 season, finishing 13th out of 14 teams in the league, this year is already shaping up to be an interesting one. They acquired all-time NWSL leading goal scorer Lynn Biyendolo (formerly Williams) from Gotham FC. Biyendolo will lead the line for a revamped Reign FC side which includes returning stars such as Jordyn Huitema, Jess Fishlock, and Lu Barnes the latter two of whom are Reign FC originals — entering their 12th season with the club. Fishlock and Barnes are also the only players who have played for the same club for every year of the NWSL’s existence.
We’re also expecting the Reign to lean on some younger, less-established players, such as Emeri Adames, who scored in dramatic fashion in the 97th minute of last year’s match against North Carolina FC. She’ll be joined by college acquisitions Maddie Dahlien and Emily Mason, as well as Madison Curry who spent last season with Angel City FC.
We can’t mention last year without acknowledging some cultural high points, like the jersey retirement of Megan Rapinoe’s number 15. That match and the concept of “RISE” helped spark a new team anthem for 2025: “Stand Up” by local artist Brittany Davis.
And if their new anthem gives us any clue, we have a feeling the Reign will be entering this season with some grit.
