If I can’t take my coffee break
Something within me dies
These are some of Frank Loesser’s lyrics from his 1961 musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” but, really, it’s the rallying cry for Seattle’s most notorious output. Because how the heck can we get through the gray months without the chemical substance that gets out the lead? How can we hike up steep downtown hills before and after eight hours staring at our computer screens, crunching numbers for The Man? What, we’re supposed to eat pierogi raw? I don’t think so.
Because of this, hoo-boy do we have some good roasters in town. And though you may have your favorite café or stand or beans you get at the market, now’s your chance to branch out at the upcoming Seattle Coffee Festival, where 35 featured roasters will give you samples of their lovely hot bean juice. Bring your favorite mug and swish it around in your mouth and give your brain a boost!
One pass will get you into the festival at Magnuson Park Hangar 30 in Northeast Seattle, giving you the chance to wake up, then wake up again, and again, until you stop time itself! (I’m thinking of this sequence from one of the final original episodes of “Futurama.”) Meanwhile, there will be food for purchase, plus live music from the likes of JoAnna Lee and Jermaine to soothe your soul.
And if you get an all-day pass, you get in-and-out privileges, so you can enjoy the rest of the massive park and all of its offerings, or go out and have a snack, and then come back for some more. Because there will never be enough coffee for us. Never.
