Friday, April 7th – Sunday, April 9th
What have you been watching lately? Maybe it’s You, maybe The Mandalorian. Maybe it’s The Last of Us. They’re all great live-action shows, but you’re sleeping on the greatest medium in the world: anime. Maybe you saw it in its more teenage cartoon form—Sailor Moon, Naruto, Dragon Ball. But the genre is far richer than the shows of your childhood memories. It’s boundless and it’s culminating here, at a humble tiny—HAHA JK—really gigantic new convention center in Seattle.
Sakura-Con touts itself as the biggest anime convention in the PNW and one of the biggest in the nation. A three-day event held over Easter weekend, it’s a celebration of the Japanese entertainment culture that coincides with the blooming of our cherry blossoms. Don’t be afraid to say hey to the endless stream of cosplayers or take pictures. You’re bound to see a plethora of Sailor Moons chillin’ at the center. But take a risk and chat with the weird dude with a chainsaw coming outta his forehead or the little girl with pink hair that makes ridiculous reaction faces. Tickets are $100 for the weekend, with official after-party info below.
