❄️ Rain or shine event
Although this blustery season brings rain, gray skies, and chilly temperatures, Seattle winters are still beautiful in their own way. Evergreens fill in the blank space left by bare tree branches, winter flowers bloom in bushes, and the sunsets can be spectacular.
Every second Saturday in December, volunteers light thousands of luminaries along Green Lake‘s path, transforming it into a magical route for Seattleites and their loved ones to traverse at dusk. (Furry friends are welcome to join in the magic as well.)
📢 What to expect:
- 🕯️ Thousands of candlelit luminaries line the entire lake path
- 🎈 Hot Air Balloon Glow from 4:30-5:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
- 🎸 Local bands and choirs performing on three stages
- ☕ Hot drinks and sweet treats available for purchase
- 🥫 FamilyWorks food drive collection stations
💁♂️ Pro tips:
- 🌆 Arrive at dusk (around 4:15 p.m.) to watch the luminaries being lit
- 🅿️ Park in the Green Lake Community Center lot or side streets
- 💵 Bring cash for food and drink vendors
- ♨️ Wear warm, waterproof layers and bring an umbrella
- 🎁 Consider bringing a non-perishable food donation
- 🛤️ Access the path from any point around the lake
This beloved winter tradition brings together thousands of Seattleites each year, proving that even on the darkest evenings, our community knows how to light up the night.
